6 Hour Worlds (Capitol Punishment)

This was the first ever self-proclaimed 6hr World Championships (isn’t this how SSWC and SSCXWC started and continue today???) in Capitol Forest near Olympia Washington. Also known otherwise as “6Hrs of Capitol Punishment”. After a day or two of summer, Junuary started again the night before this event with steady rain continuing through most of the race. I chose to ride single speed again–why bother with silly gears if they aren’t going to work after a couple laps anyway?! The 10 mile course climbed to Capitol Peak and descended the Green Line (a notable local DH trail). There was a cash prime for fastest lap which I managed second time through even with course already falling apart! I was nearly five minutes faster than the next and set new course record! Proof that 26″ hardtail SS bikes and yours truly CAN still rail the muddy nastiness! I continued with steady sub 1hr lap times to finish 7 laps and win Overall rainbow jersey. Best part of the day: passing all the padded out, full-faced Green Line shuttlers on my Tranny going downhill–and luvin’ my custom valved 100mm Manitou R7!
